The “O” in O’Loughlin was dropped because of the times that were in it. My grandfather, Edward was the youngest in the family. He was with the Royal Irish Constabulary (R.I.C.) at the time of the census taking. I heard that he had been working austere weather conditions in the Wicklow Mountains. There was a lot of fighting then, and it took it also toll on him.  He is buried in a small old church in Freynestown along with his parents. Nellie, a first cousin once brought me to see the grave. The large flat slab had been badly damaged. Nellie told me that there had been a dreadful storm, and as a consequence part of the structure of the former Protestant church had unfortunately landed right on top of the burial slab.

An observation: There appears to be a three year age discrepancy regarding Johanna. I must get it checked out. If she was 63 in 1911, that would make her 53 in the 1901 Census, as opposed to 50 as stated therein.
