Dr. Veronica DunneDublin born (Veronica) Dunne was a child with varied interests. She not only found herself involved in singing at an early age, she also developed a love for horses. During her youth, Ronnie competed in Gymkhanas at the Royal Dublin Society riding competitions.

The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition is now a well established event, attracting young singers from all over the world. Ronnie continues to teach:

If I couldn’t teach I would say ‘good bye everybody, I don’t want to live any more’. For students to succeed, they must be absolutely committed, they must have a voice and they must watch their figure because theatre producers today want the whole package.

Christine Buckley, Goldenbridge survivor offered to get me singing lessons with Veronica Dunne. More for the experience, because of having missed out in life. Sadly, it was at the time of great stress during the thick of the commission to inquire into child institutional abuse. It’s such a pity that it didn’t happen when I was in my prime. Christine’s idea was that survivors missed out on the things in life that those with aspirations go for with encouragement from their families.
