Es Burebüebli

Es Burebüebli mahn-i nid, das gsieht me mir wohl a, juhe, es Burebüebli mahn-i nid, das gsieht mer mir wohl a. Fidiri …. Smuess eine si gar hübsch und fin, darf keini Fähler ha, juhe …..Und Herrebüebli gits ja nid, wo keini Fähler hei, juhe …..Drum bliben-i ledig, bis i Hochzit ha, so het die Lieb es End, juhe …..Do fallt mer no dr Jakob i, dä chönnt em End no ledig si …..Do isch de Jakob gstorbe gsi, und alli Chance sind verbi …..Drum gan-i noch Amerika und sueche dert en andre Ma …..Und wenn i eine gfunde ha, so bind i en am Stuhl- bei a …..Und z’letscht am End da denken-i: Es Burebüebli täts för mi! …..

I notice that spelling in the texts vary a lot. Although the song was originally created in Bernese Oberland dialect the different Swiss-German counties would have obviously made it their own, hence the variation in spelling.

The older version of song says that she’ll remain single till the day she dies. However, this elongated version says that

Drum bliben-i ledig, bis i Hochzit ha, so het die Lieb es End, juhe ..

Then there is mention of Jacob.. .and going off to America to find another man?
